Green Day’s “Holiday” - A Political Interpretation

Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, an American rock/punk band, recently produced a musical and lyrical masterpiece: American Idiot. Lyrically the album examines a number of related themes about America both in terms of its relations to the world as well as how changes in America have impacted (some of ) its citizens (e.g., St. Jimmy, a central character within the album). Here, however, I offer a specific interpretation of one song - Holiday - because within it I was able to discern a considerable number of relevant political positions and arguments regarding America in its latest foreign and domestic policy incarnation.
