Laughing Out Loud - U.S. Offers to Sit and Talk with Iran about the Weather
Haaretz just published an article whose content is worth mocking for a moment. The article is basically a rehash of all the clichés used when writing about Iran and its nuclear program including the innuendo meant to elicit a fear response. No, Iran is not defiant on the uranium enrichment issue. (”Defiant” being the most popular misleading term used to mischaracterize Iran’s nuclear goals.) Iran wants peaceful nuclear energy, a full nuclear fuel cycle and all the inspections the IAEA thinks it needs to conduct, to be sure the program is peaceful. You call that defiant? I call that beyond reasonable. How about, the U.S. defies all reason in its wilful pursuit to have its way irrespective of the solid case Iran has provided for having a nuclear program? Publish that for a change.
The punch-line of this article - the thing that causes one to laugh out loud at the absurdity of the U.S. - resides in the title itself:
U.S. ready for nuclear talks if Iran renounces uranium enrichment.
Wake up. The nuclear talks are about uranium enrichment. You cannot meet to discuss what you want, if what you want must be renounced before you can meet to discuss it. So, in other words, “the U.S. is ready for Iran to renounce nuclear talks so that they can then get together and discuss the weather.”
Wow Iran. You better jump at that opportunity.
