Settle This

It’s the settlements. Period. This is where the defenders of oppression lack a defense. Discussion of the settlements will either lead to arcane biblical incantations or to cries of anti-Semitism or other such topic changing responses. That’s because there is no real response in defense of the settlements. One needs to change the subject or face the truth: The settlements are by now (forty years long) a drawn out act of cultural destruction. It doesn’t even matter if there was or was not some original intent post 1967. It doesn’t matter if certain of the population settled while the government looked the other way (and not just the government but a mighty foreign government too). What matters is that the settlements are the primary act of war against an indigenous population that makes legitimate all forms of resistance to the perpetuation of this violent encroachment. Every act aimed at eliminating those settlements is legitimate. The settlements make illegitimate and laughable all cries and pleas and exhortations to victim hood and past suffering. One tries to, once again, feel empathy finding instead feelings of disgust. And opposition. All the possible claims that could be made to elicit sympathy and understanding, lie stillborn in the face of the truth of the settlements. Their truth is the undeniable truth. The unspeakable truth that Judaism has been sacrificed at the alter of phantasm’s and fairy tales. All that remains then is the people of the book - without the book.

The book has been burned in effigy. Perhaps the book failed them. Perhaps they failed the book. Either way, the book plays no role, has no part. It has been dispensed with. In exchange for … settlements.
