Ex-Jews, Christ Killers, Tribalism, Univeral Humanism and more

Once again Gilad Atzmon has inspired me to think on matters. In this case matters ostensibly about beliefs about Jesus Christ and how Christ’s “universal humanism” can be employed to criticize Zionism.

My inspiration, however, has seemingly taken on a critical tone of its own regarding the text of interest. In it (with a brief introduction by Atzmon) Atzmon relates an “email exchange” between himself and “Lenni Brenner, the legendary anti-Zionist Jewish Marxist historian”. In fact, the exchange is more in the form of Brenner having a series of basic theological questions aimed at discerning Atzmon’s religious inclinations with Atzmon responding to said questions. It is not so much a genuine exchange as a series of questions and answers. Apparently, all this matters because Atzmon is a self-declared ex-Jew, relentlessly critical of Zionism and its actions in Palestine. Apparently, discerning whether or not Atzmon is a Christian, matters given his critical stance.

See, Better a human being than a rattlesnake: Gilad Atzmon answers Lenni Brenner’s theological questions, for the text to what below is my critical take.
