Calling Out Idiot America

There are many articles worth ruminating on when one’s aim is to get a firmer grasp on the truth of matters in the Middle East. I hope I’ve managed to hone in on a few of them over the months in the Recent News and Views post. (See, for example, Gideon Levy’s article A Dangerous Masked Ball or Robert Fisk’s, The Crushing Fear that Stalks America). Scott Ritter, however, recently provided an article of exception in this respect. He poses a challenge to the reader and I might as well admit that I’m one such reader that failed his challenge. In short, he challenges westerners to face up to how profoundly and dangerously ignorant we are of even the basic history of the Middle East and in particular of the Sunni, Shiite division not to mention the role Wahhabism has played in the region.

So here, in its entirety is one article that points the way to understanding why it is important to understand what the problem is before running off (guns blazing, bombs falling) to “solve” it.
